While I won’t provide a comprehensive inventory of my toolbox here, I will share some valuable advice offered to me by a seasoned expert in DIY and carpentry.
“Whatever job you’re about to undertake, make sure you have the best tools to perform the task as it will become infinitely easier if you do“
One key recommendation is to select a reputable brand and remain consistent with it. In the UK, there are several options, including Makita, DeWalt, Bosch, Ryobi, Milwaukee, Einhell, Festool, among others. Personally, I chose DeWalt and have continued to use their tools. Festool is often considered the premium choice, but beyond my budget. The merits of the remaining brands are frequently debated within the DIY community.

The reason to be ‘loyal’ to a brand (you don’t have to but..) is that you’ll probably want cordless versions of the power tools you choose and yes, you guessed it, the batteries are not interchangeable between them. This means that once you have a few batteries, you can buy the ‘bare’ power tool (without battery) which works out cheaper.
My start wishlist was pretty simple:- Drill and Driver set, mitre/chop saw, circular saw, a belt sander and an oscillating sander. As time has progressed I’ve bought other power tools as needed for the jobs I’ve been working on.
